David's Bridal

David's Bridal is equipped with an army of diva's and princess' willing to help other diva's and princess' find their perfect wedding dress. Upon arrival, you are assigned a consultant who goes with you on the journey of finding the dress. I was assigned Summer. Summer was so kind and she really was concerned about you liking the entire dress and knowing that this was the one! She had us sit down and tell her styles of dresses we liked as well as a price range. She then went to the back and worked her magic. We tried on tons of dresses and she brought one out that was different. She said, "I know its not the style you preferred, but I think you're going to love it." We tried it on and it was the one. It was a perfect dress. I would definitely recommend going to see Summer!

They have an alteration crew that does a great job we heard. We let them do a few minor things to the dress and it was SUPER EXPENSIVE. We knew we only had a month until the wedding so we decided we would just let them do it. We came back for the final fitting, a few days before the wedding, and the dress was not hemmed right. We were concerned but Annie took over the job and she stayed there all night just to finish it. We got a call the next day to come try it out, and it was perfect. I would recommend their alterations staff if you are not in a hurry or you do not have a strict budget.

Here's a fun idea!!!!

Instead of having a reception with a 7 course meal for 500 guests, have a chocolate and champagne reception. Have chocolate fountains accompanied with an assortment of fruits and desserts to dip in the chocolate. What else could go better with chocolate than champagne? All of your guests will wowed. who can resist chocolate?

Staples... That was easy!

Looking for fast and easy invitations that wont break the bank? Go to Staples.

On word, you can make your invitations the way you like. Then save to your flash drive and basically your part is done. Take the flash drive to Staples. They will print it onto card stock, cut it, hole punch it and anything else you need done to it.

I took my flash drive up there with my document on there. I made invitations that are long and thin. Black card stock is on the back, in the middle there is red card stock and on top is white card stock with the invitation printed on it. I then had them cut black and white Victorian print card stock in small thin strips to put as a border on the top. I then had them hole punch it at the top and tied black and red ribbons onto it. It was only $27 to print, cut, hole punch and assemble. It was done within an hour from when I brought it to them. They turned out great and I am so happy. They look elegant and I spent less than $30!!

Grooms get cold feet, brides get the stomach flu and the weather is not our friend!

Today, wedding bells should be ringing for my mock couple, Christopher Michael Meister and Jessica Louise Stevens around 6 tonight.  They should be feeling their pre-wedding jitters right about now and I should be running around putting the final touches on everything. Jessica should be getting her hair and makeup done. Chris should be talking with his best man about his life after tonight. Things seem perfect right? Nothing could be further from the truth. Let me tell you a little bit of the story.

As you probably know, I am planning two mock weddings for my senior project at Brashier Middle College. We were to choose something to make us think and something that we could learn from. I chose wedding planning. Fun right? I thought so… And I still think so. I have just hit a few speed bumps. This is supposed to be a good thing! The speed bumps are going to be ways of rearranging things and learning from it.

The first wedding was set for today, December 16, 2010. The church was decorated beautifully with green garland and garnished with gold and brown ornaments. The lighting was to be dimmed with a plethora of candles scattered on the ground. Jessica was to wear a long mermaid style dress with her maid of honor in a long champagne dress. Chris and his best man were to wear black suits with a black tie that had champagne accents. They were going to say there vows and then have their reception right after that.

My original groom got “cold feet.” The first mock groom called me about a week before the wedding and said he could no longer do it. I did not panic immediately because I thought I still had a while. As it turns out, a week is not long at all! I called a handful of people and they all said no. This Tuesday I found one! The wedding was back in action.

Today I wake up to hear that school has been cancelled and that the roads were terrible because of ice. I started having thoughts of cancelling because the roads were going to get bad again later tonight. My bride called me a few minutes later and said she had the stomach virus. She still wanted to do the wedding but I decided it would be best to cancel. I let everyone know that it will be rescheduled right after Christmas.

My learning experience for this one could be:  grooms get cold feet, brides get the stomach flu, and the weather is not our friend.

Belk's Gift Registry

I went to register at the Simpsonville location and I was not pleased at all. The workers were not helpful at all and the registry was extremely slow. The electronic registry broke while we were there so the employee said we should register online. I would not recommend going to the Fairview Road Belk’s.
I then went the next Friday to the Haywood Road location and the employees were extremely helpful. She stayed with us until we got the hang of the gun and she reviewed all of our entries to ensure we got everything we signed up for. I would suggest going to the Haywood Road location over the Fairvew Road location.

Pammy the Cake Lady

I went to Pammy’s store on a Friday afternoon.  When I walked in the air smelled of home made cookies, cake, bread and desserts. Her store is quaint but don’t underestimate Mrs. Pammy. She has made so many beautiful cakes and she has books of her products for the customers to look at upon their arrival. She introduced herself and she was very kind. She asked us what we would like to order and we gave her an idea of what we wanted. She drew a sketch of it and gave us ideas for flavors, design and cutting the cost. Her cakes were fairly well priced. I would certainly recommend Pammy to anyone getting married! She also gave us samples of cakes to narrow down our flavor of cake and filling. I tried the cream cheese pound cake and it delectable. The pound cake was not dry and flaky; it was soft and so fresh. The icing was also spectacular. I believe that the streets in heaven will be made from bricks of her cream cheese pound cake and flowing in the streams of heaven will be her icing! She seriously knows how to bake and she is great with helping you pick out your dream cake!

Wedding Tip of the Week!!!

If you have a lower budget, don’t think that you can’t have your cake and eat it too! This comes from my dear friends Bridgette and Elise:
Do you want an extravagant 4 layer cake that has intricate detail but you do not think it is within your budget range? Well, here is an idea! Some people are now decorating fake cakes where the bottom layer is the only real cake layer. This way the bride and groom can cut it in front of their guests, however, the guests can eat sheet cake from Publix that has some of the same detail. This way you get the beautiful look however your budget will not take a huge blow. Also, it will cut a huge chunk out of time. You can already have the sheet cake sliced and put onto plates waiting for the guests. The cake won’t have to be cut, thus cutting out time! This saves more time for socializing and dancing!
